Microsoft Phils To Introduce I-Café Program At The Summit

Microsoft Philippines confirms its participation in the Second Mindanao Internet Café Associations Summit (2nd MICAS) to be held on February 18 and 19, 2010 at The Event Centre, SM City-Davao in Davao City. The software company will expound on the Microsoft I-Café Program which it recently launched to provide one-time, all-time low on license costs of Windows operating system and Office productivity suite. The initiative is aimed at giving the i-café owners the opportunity to legalize their unlicensed software as well as get long-term programs and partner support from the largest software development company in the world. The program offers secure and dependable computing in licensing packages that are relevant and affordable for Internet café owners who are looking to serve their customers better.

In its website, Microsoft describes the I-Café Program as its response to one of Internet café customers’ unmet needs for secure and dependable computing experience in a shared PC space. By providing secure software and reliable services to Internet café owners, Microsoft helps i-cafés to improve the customer experience and user productivity on the shared PCs in their shops. As a result, program joiners will become the Internet cafés of choice in their communities, thereby increasing profitability and improving their competitive positions.

This early, less than a week after the launch of the program, comments and queries from i-café owners who frequent web forums show acceptance of the program. There are still some questions to be addressed which is just normal for an undertaking of this magnitude. ICT-Davao Will Be At The 2nd MICAS

ICT Davao Incorporated, also known as ICT Davao and the umbrella organization of all information and communication technology groups hosted by Davao City joins the Second Mindanao Internet Café Associations Summit (2nd MICAS) which will be held in February 18 and 19, 2010 at The Event Centre, SM City-Davao. I-Café Pilipinas, a co-organizer of 2nd MICAS, welcomes the participation of ICT Davao in the summit. ICT-Davao, as a non-government organization, works with relevant business support organizations, the local government and national government agencies that champion the formulation of ICT related policies and regulations to create a business environment that encourage ICT investments to make Davao the preferred destination for competitive and cutting-edge ICT products and services. The initiatives of ICT-Davao jibe well with that of I-Café Pilipinas in working for a better Internet café industry in the coming days.

In the 2nd MICAS where the concerned government agencies and current stakeholders in the Internet café industry will be present, ICT-Davao will launch the “World Citizen: Galing sa Barangay, Balik sa Barangay“, a social networking project for out-of-school-youth. When fully-implemented, the project is projected to bring benefits to i-cafés in terms of computer usage by the members of the social network. The “World Citizen: Galing sa Barangay, Balik sa Barangay” social network will be born out of “Social Networking Training for Out-of-School-Youth (OSY)”, a project funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and implemented by Davao Industry Cluster Capacity Enhancement Project (DICCEP).

On the second day of the summit, ICT-Davao will sign a Memorandum Of Agreement (MOA) with City Health Office and make video presentation on SME Tech Center and Sustainable Resource Management. Indeed, ICT-Davao is fulfilling its mission to create and sustain synergy among multi-stakeholders towards the development of a dynamic ICT ecosystem in the areas of human resources, infrastructure, business climate and governance in Davao City.
